Stefanie Lyons, owner of Nicole Miller San Diego, announced today that her store will donate a percentage of sales during the week of 11/25/12 to JDRF to support critical diabetes research. The popular fashion boutique located at The Forum in Carlsbad has been a long time supporter of JDRF through in-store promotions, private fundraising parties and the donation of fabulous auction items for the JDRF Promise Ball.

During the week of 11/25 through 12/1, customers can request to have a percentage of their purchase donated to JDRF at the Carlsbad store. The boutique offers Nicole Miller sportswear, day dresses, cocktail, formalwear and bridal collections. “We are very grateful to Stefanie Lyons and Nicole Miller San Diego for their generous support over the years and for this upcoming special JDRF promotion.”Ā said Karen Creelman of the JDRF Board of Directors and mother of a young son with T1D. Financial support helps JDRF fund diabetes research worldwide as well as research being conducted at some of San Diego’s finest research centers including UCSD’s Pediatric Diabetes Research Center, The La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology, The Salk Institute and The Scripps Research Institute.

“With funding for diabetes research having declined over the last few years due to economic conditions, it is more important now than ever to have the support of our local business community to end this life threatening disease.”Ā said Sean McParland, Executive Director of JDRF San Diego. “We are fortunate to have business leaders like Stefanie Lyons and others in our San Diego community who are helping to keep the research moving forward toward better treatments and a cure.”Ā he added.

When shopping during the week of 11/25, customers must remember to inform the sales assistant that they are shopping to support JDRF and would like a percentage of their sale donated to JDRF to fund diabetes research to prevent, treat and cure diabetes.

About JDRF
JDRF is the leader in research leading to a cure for T1D in the world.Ā  It sets the global agenda for diabetes research, and is the largest charitable funder and advocate of diabetes science worldwide.

The mission of JDRF is to find a cure for diabetes and its complications through the support of research.Ā  T1D is an autoimmune disease that strikes children and adults, and can be fatal.Ā  Until a cure is found, people with type 1 diabetes have to test their blood sugar and give themselves insulin injections multiple times or use a pump “ā€œ each day, every day of their lives.Ā  And even with that intensive care, insulin is not a cure for diabetes, nor does it prevent its potential and devastating complications, which may include kidney failure, blindness, heart disease, stroke and amputation.
Ā
Since its founding in 1970 by parents of children with T1D, JDRF has awarded more than $1.5 billion to diabetes research, including $107 million last year. More than 80 percent of JDRF’s expenditures directly support research and research-related education.
